The difference of the fuel tank cap, oil cap, and the oil filter cap.

Fuel Tank Cap

The fuel tank cap is located at the fuel filler neck, usually outside the car, and seals the fuel tank to prevent fuel spills, contamination, and evaporative emissions. It often has a threaded or bayonet fitting and may include a ratchet mechanism for safety.

Oil Cap (Oil Filler Cap)

The oil cap, or oil filler cap, is on the engine, typically on the valve cover or cylinder head. It seals the oil fill port to prevent dirt and debris from entering and maintains crankcase pressure, often with a twist-on or push-on design and a rubber seal.

Oil Filter Cap

The oil filter cap is part of the oil filter housing in vehicles with cartridge oil filters, located on the engine. It allows access to replace the filter element and has a threaded design with an O-ring seal. Not all cars have this; spin-on oil filters don't require a separate cap.

To facilitate understanding, the following table summarizes the key differences, This table highlights the distinct roles and contexts for each cap.
